Filly won a mile maiden special weight at Kentucky Downs Sept. 7.

Head of Plains Partners’ homebred Fluffy Socks prevailed after a long drive Sept. 7 at Kentucky Downs and became the first winner for freshman sire Slumber.

The 2-year-old filly ridden by Tyler Gaffalione was sixth of 11 early in the $94,350 maiden special weight but only had two lengths to make up. Following fractions of :23.35, :47.62, and 1:12.35 through six furlongs, Fluffy Socks raced three wide and battled past front-running Surrealist to get up by 1 3/4 lengths. She completed the mile on firm turf in 1:36.41.

Monday’s race was the second start for Chad Brown-trained Fluffy Socks, who was fifth on debut Aug. 9 at Saratoga Race Course. She has collected $56,880 from her two efforts.

Fluffy Socks was bred in Kentucky and is the second foal out of the Kitten’s Joy  mare Breakfast Time.

Slumber, a British-bred son of Cacique out of the Woodman mare Sound Asleep, was also trained by Brown during the latter half of his race career. He scored his biggest victory in the 2015 Knob Creek Manhattan Stakes (G1T) at Belmont Park and placed in four other top-level events. Racing from 2-8 he made 27 starts and collected a 5-6-5 record and earnings of $1,477,162.

His second dam is grade 1 winner Sleep Easy (by Seattle Slew) who is a half sister to Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) and Hollywood Gold Cup (G1) hero Aptitude (by A.P. Indy).

Slumber entered stud at Calumet Farm in 2017 and has stood at the Lexington operation since then for $5,000.
