Three Chimneys, Whisper Hill Acquire $725K Curlin Filly – BloodHorse
The filly was consigned as Hip 57 by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency
Whisper Hill Farm and Three Chimneys Farm partnered up Aug. 8 at The Saratoga Sale, Fasig-Tipton’s select yearling sale in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., landing a Curlin filly consigned as Hip 57 for $725,000 via an online bid.
Todd Quast, racing manager and general manager for Whisper Hill, was elated to land the filly offered by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency.
“(Hip 57) was such an athletic Curlin. She had great size and great presence about her,” Quast said. “Just her athleticism is what really struck us about her. Plus you add that pedigree to it… $725,000 is a lot of money, but we were very happy with the price as well.
“We’ve done a lot of partnerships with Goncalo (Borges Torrealba, owner of Three Chimneys). He loved the filly and we did too.”
Out of the A.P. Indy mare Rare Event, the filly bred in Kentucky by Calumet Farm is a half to multiple grade 1 winner Improbable , who finished his career with nearly $3 million in earnings with a 7-4-0 record from 15 starts and stands at WinStar Farm. Further down the page is Darley sire Hard Spun .
Whisper Hill’s other purchase was a Gun Runner filly (Hip 22) bought alone for $285,000 from Eaton Sales’ consignment. She was bred by Sierra Farm out of the Bodemeister mare Meister Legend.
“I thought the market was good,” Quast said. “I do think in the catalog, in individuals, there are better horses tomorrow than today—and today was pretty strong.
